Chris_Baker Posted 18 December , 2002 Share Posted 18 December , 2002 I've seen references ina couple of battalion war diaries to "Congratulatory Cards" given out by 56th (London) Division, in 1917 and 1918. Presumably this was a form of "mention". Has anyone seen one? What did they say/look like?
Paul Reed Posted 19 December , 2002 Share Posted 19 December , 2002 Many divisions had these - to reward soldiers who otherwise wouldn't get anything. Several 56th Div men I knew had been given them; they were very similar to a MID certificate, and signed by Major General Hull. They had the soldiers name and military details written on the card; but not the date and place of the "act" if I recall correctly.
