Thanks The number you have posted above has seven digits, therefore was not his number on attestation but was in a block issued to the Leinster Regiment in 1920 See parent site https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/soldiers/a-soldiers-life-1914-1918/new-british-army-numbers-issued-in-1920/ The significance of this is that his record may still be available at the MoD which, if you are next of kin you can apply for, on payment of a fee. https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records Guessing his original number was 9137, this Patrick Kelly landed in France on 19 December 1914 compatible with the main body of the 1st Battalion. The number 9137 indicates regular enlistment before January 1910 and after February 1909 (.e. 8 October 1909) http://armyservicenumbers.blogspot.com/2009/09/leinster-regiment-1st-2nd-battalions.html This is the number that will be on his medals. Karenfitzg Posted 21 July , 2019 Share Posted 21 July , 2019 Thanks for the replies. Very helpful. Thanks Ken. Lots of helpful information. Thanks Jervis that’s him. I have also found his medal card online which gives two regiment numbers but as of yet have been unable to find his service record. His medal record indicates that all medals were returned. From reading other forums it looks like they were unable to be delivered. Regards karen

Karenfitzg Posted 22 July , 2019 Share Posted 22 July , 2019 Thanks for the link Ken. Yes I am a great grand daughter but my mum is still alive so I may make the application on her behalf. As he died before she was born we didn’t know much about him until now. I’ll keep the forum posted as to how I get on. Karen

Admin Michelle Young Posted 6 May Admin Share Posted 6 May @Gerry reid as you already have a thread established, I suggest that members do not reply to this enquiry, but keep replies on your other thread. Creating multiple posts about the same subject causes confusion and repetition of members time and effort.
