Remembered Today:

RM Brigades at ANZAC 3 May 1915

It is sometimes forgotten that the RND fought at ANZAC from 28 April to 12 May. As we know, the fighting was severe from around the afternoon of 25 April, hence the RND being sent in to reinforce the ANZAC position.

I'd just like to give a mention to the often forgotten men of the Chatham, Deal and Portsmouth Bttns of the Royal Marine Brigade, RND and Nelson Bttn, RND who were involved in the relentless, chaotic and often hand to hand fighting between the Chessboard and Johnsons Jolly during the period 3 May to 12 May.

Also to the 4 Australian Brigade that fought with the RND in repulsing the Turkish attacks and the many that still lie alongside them.

Finally to their foe that fought with great courage and endeavour in defending what was their homeland.

For anyone thats walked the road from Lone Pine towards Walkers Ridge, then the bravery and tenacity of all that fought there is something that we can only marvel at.

Hello Jonathan,

I came across an intersting little historical irony the other day: Sub-Lieutenant Gerald Plunkett of the Collingwood Bn. R.N.Div. was killed in action on Gallipoli on the 4th of June, 1915.

Almost a year later, his brother Joseph Plunkett was executed by a British Army firing squad in the Stonebreakers Yard in Kilmainham Gaol. Joseph Plunkett was one of the signatories of the 1916 Rising in Dublin.

You can bogged down in your own regiment/ countries actions of a war. It is a reminder when you see postings such as yours that many fought and helped each other in all theatres.
