This is from a letter written by an old lady who lived through WW1. It`s a new one on me. Anybody heard of it? Phil B

If I am not correct the sock were grey wollen, I think it might be Trench Foot i.e gangrene.

This appears to be khaki dye - hence not from grey socks!

My Dad told me that one of his work collegues was wounded in North Africa/Italy in WW2 and though the wound wasnt serious it did take a piece of his shirt into the wound and the dye from this got into his bloodstream resulting in him being seriously ill for a short while.
