greg873 Posted 30 March , 2006 Share Posted 30 March , 2006 Hello whats this rank all about ? Its a chap in the AIF Cheers Ian Don't know about the AIF, but the current British Army states this for Corporals, so may be something along the same lines: "As a corporal, your opportunities to serve outside the battalion at Extra Regimental Employment ("E") appointments, will increase. Whilst not an essential pre-requisite for further promotion, completion of a tour of duty at "E" can serve to advantage you at promotion boards who will be keen to see how you have fared against wider competition than just your own battalion" John G

Bob Doneley Posted 1 April , 2006 Share Posted 1 April , 2006 Extra-Regimentals were, to my understanding, NCO's who were carried on the Battalion's strength but were actually surplus to the published war establishment. As such, they could be employed in any role they were suitable for, until a vacancy came up for a regimental posting. Bob
