Who was the enemy?

Hi

I realise it is after the Great War but whilst researching a member of the MGC i checked his medal roll and found he was entitled to the Afghan clasp to IGS.Can anyone tell me who he would have been fighting in that theatre in 1919.He died of sickness in India sept 1919.
