Hi, i have just purchased a copy of the history of the Royal Marines 1914-1919,it came with a typed aphabetical list of all persons mentioned in this history, if anybody requires information please let me know

I suppose it is unlikely that Holmfirth’s two Privates will be mentioned but it might be worth a look at the list if you don’t mind:

Tom Hampshire, Private CH/1298(S) 1st Royal Marine Battalion. Royal Marine Light Infantry, who died on Saturday 28th April 1917, originally he was officially reported to be missing and presumed dead on that date.

Irvine Hinchliffe, Private CH/1481(S) Royal Marine Light Infantry the only son of Joe and Annie Hinchliffe of Park View, Greenfield Road, Holmfirth, was killed in action on Friday 16 February 1917 Age 20.

Apologies for the late reply I have only just noticed your post.

Many thanks for the additional info you have provided.

I was aware of his GSW and his overseas service as I have his original service record and have obtained additional records from FAAM and

knowledgeable experts on this forum have supplied endless other facts. Although I am still trying to find out the circumstances behind his first

wound badge and more than likely never will. I was not aware however of his attendance to field ambulances for those ailments listed. I will

endeavour to retrieve the records for my files. That is a big help thanks.
