cliff brown Posted 16 September , 2003 Share Posted 16 September , 2003 The grave of Jimmy the Donkey, associated with the Scottish Rifles during WW1 and who spent the remainder of his life in Peterborough as a family pet, has been refurbished after a successful appeal by residents in Peterborough. They adopted him, named him Jimmy and and he served them faithfully, carrying ammunition and other essentials around the battlefields. He died in 1943, and his stone memorial is inscribed: "Our Jimmy. Born on the Somme June 1916, mascot of the 1st Scottish Rifles. ... Sorry, can't find a photo.
