For you Air buffs I have a few more AIF soldiers who were granted comisions in the RFC and died.

Reginald Burton Lt 60 Sqn RFC DoW 1-5-17

Charles Robert Edson Lt 22 Sqn RFC DoW 17-8-17

Can anyone confirm who brought these men down and where.

Thanks for any insight.

I'm not as much help as I'd like to be, but I can advise that Lt C R Edson was the observer in a Bristol F2B flown by Lt M W Turner when fatally wounded. Lt Turner was wounded in the action. No German Jasta claims seem to match the event, and the location isn't mentioned in 'The Sky Their Battlefield'. No 22 Sqn was operating over Flanders at the time.

I can't find mention of Lt R Burton in the standard works on aerial casualties or in the CWGC records. Could you check the name?

Clark was brought down, in flames, on the 24th April 1917 east of Arras at around 1.15pm. He was flying a Nieuport 23 (A6777) with 60 Squadron, left his aerodrome at 12.35 on a Kite Balloon Patrol, and was attacked by 3 enemy aeroplanes.

He died of his wounds/injuries on 1.5.1917.

Henshaw, in TSTB, could not identify which pilot(s) or squadron was responsible.
