Remembered Today:

"(3) France" on Medal Rolls?

Hello,

this is my first post to the list, but I've been a fan of the website for many years.

I'm researching the movements of my Grandfather, Bertie Hickinbotham spr. 94769. I've had copies of his medal rolls for some time. Unfortunately they give very little information. The theatre of war first entered into is listed as "(3) France". I wonder if anyone knows what the (3) means? Third army, or something else.

Any information on narrowing down my search for a unit would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks in advance,

Simon Hickinbotham

Hi Simon and welcome to the forum, it may be your first post but you can rest assured it gets very addictive.

Anyway, just to confuse you some more

The theatre of war first entered into is listed as "(3) France".

Your MIC seems to have conflicting information. Assuming the date shown on the MIC is before 31 December 1915 then France should be theatre (1). Theatre (3) actually applied to Egypt.

You can find a full list of the Theatre Codes on the LLT Mother Site Here

Regards

Steve
