Can anyone give me information on the above mentioned ships movement during the Great War. I would be interested to know if its work would be dedicated to the Scottish Regiments or used in a more general capacity.

HMHS Aberdonian was not exclusively for use of Scottish Regiments.

Tyneside Z/8691 AB. Samuel Hutton LAWSON. RNVR. Hawke Bn., R.N.Div. DOW 18/11/16 aboard HS "Aberdonian" en route to UK.

The 'Aberdonian' was in service as a hospital ship from 16th October 1915 until 16th June 1919, and was one of the smaller hospital ships with accommodation for 245 wounded. Other than these basic details, she doesn't get a mention in 'Hospital Ships and Ambulance Trains,' so presumably had a relatively uneventful time. I've never considered the idea that the ships name had any bearing on nationality of troops they moved - could have been interesting in relation to the hospital ships 'Copenhagen, Donegal, Brighton, Panama, and Formosa' among others! :)

I wonder if this is the same ABERDONIAN that was a Maintenance Ship in WWII? That one was built 1909.

Well HMHS Aberdonian started life in 1909 as SS Aberdonian (GRT 1,648 tonnes) before being requisitioned as a Hospital Ship by the Admiralty (Pennant No E80) and only sold in 1946 to Shahin Steamship Company as Taishan Peak (later Parviz) and sold for scrap in 1949.

So, sounds as if it's the same ship!!

(Ooops, forgot to acknowledge that the info came from Maritime Quest website!)
