zijde26 Posted 11 December , 2002 Share Posted 11 December , 2002 The following website http://www.lib.byu.edu/~rdh/wwi/memoir/Fri...France/ff01.htm comprises a photograph depicting a windmill and an ambulance. According to the text the photograph could be taken in the area Ypres-Poperinghe. Can a member give the exact location ? Gilbert Deraedt
AOK4 Posted 11 December , 2002 Share Posted 11 December , 2002 Hello Gilbert, Did you check the book about windmills by Verpaalen (or Verpalen)? Jan
zijde26 Posted 12 December , 2002 Author Share Posted 12 December , 2002 To Jan, I did check the book(s) of John Verpaalen. Other books too. No book that I have, gives an answer. Kind regards, Gilbert Deraedt
AOK4 Posted 12 December , 2002 Share Posted 12 December , 2002 Maybe the windmill is in Northern France? Jan
andigger Posted 24 February , 2005 Share Posted 24 February , 2005 I would not think that this windmill would be in the Ypres-Pop area being that it is mostly intact. My guess would also be northern France, since that is also where most (thought not all) of the American troops were. Andy
Chris Best Posted 25 February , 2005 Share Posted 25 February , 2005 Gilbert What a great site. Thanks for drawing our attention to it. PS I agree, doubt your photo was taken in the Salient. Chris
Doc2 Posted 25 February , 2005 Share Posted 25 February , 2005 I can't locate it, but would like to point out that that syle of windmill is much more typical of Belgium or the Netherlands than Northern France. Not to say it couldn't have been in France, but I would look more northerly first. Doc2
healdav Posted 25 February , 2005 Share Posted 25 February , 2005 It could be a windmill that lies on the top of a hill to the south of the road from Rheims to Berry au Bac.
andigger Posted 3 March , 2005 Share Posted 3 March , 2005 Mixing threads, but could this be the same windmill? I saw this on the WWI French pic in color post. Andy http://www.culture.gouv.fr/public/mistral/...MAX3=50&DOM=All
