I tried to order copies of the histories of the Landwehr Infanterie Regiments 53 and 55, but my emails remain unanswered. Regards, Bert The same thing happens to me. Some time ago I suggested to him that he should consider using something like lulu.com whereby his apparently busy schedule would not always be interrupted by having to field requests. Apparently that didn't go over very well. I really would be interested in ordering what he has in the way of field artillery regiments, though. Guest Marc_T Posted 27 July , 2014 Share Posted 27 July , 2014 Good evening Patrick, whilst trying to find more information about my great grandfather I sprung across your post in this forum and am wondering whether you would be able to assist me in my search. My great grandfather fell in battle on March 18th, 1916 and was to my last knowledge in the Infanterie-Regiment Graf Barfuss (4. Westfälisches) Nr. 17, before that he was in the 3. unterelsässisches Infanterie Regiment Nr. 138. According to the information that I found in the internet he was a casualty during the Battle at Postawy or Narotsch. I saw that you have a CD with contents regarding these two regiments and would like to ask you on how I could obtain a copy of the CDs. Thanks for your help in advance and look forward to hearing from you soon. Replies in German are also welcome.Best regardsMarc

German IR 169 Posted 20 December , 2014 Share Posted 20 December , 2014 Hi Pat, realizing that this is response is 8 years after your post....If you still have interest in the 52nd Infantry Division, and Baden units, you may be interested in a book I recently published titled: Imperial Germany's Iron Regiment of the First World War: War Memories of Service in Infantry Regiment 169". It was inspired by, and includes, the wartime journal written by my grandfather, Albert Rieth, who was a veteran of that unit. I have a additional info in the book section of the forum. ejwalshe Posted 7 May , 2016 Share Posted 7 May , 2016 Hi I am looking for information on the Infanterie-Leib-Regiment (Bavarians) on Aug 12 1918 in Hallu, France. This is related to the Hallu Eight case where 8 Canadians were recovered in 2006/2007 by Fabien Demeusere. Looking for a reference to this unit burying Canadian soldiers on 12 Aug 1918 in Hallu. I know I may have to wait a while for a response - you mentioned you do not log in as often as you used to.... Thank you, Ted
Jack Sheldon Posted 8 May , 2016 Share Posted 8 May , 2016 Ted The Inf Leib Regt has an excellent history. I have looked up the Hallu action for you, but the only burial specifically mentioned is that of Oberleutnant Egon Freiherr [baron] von Pechmann, KIA when he was machine gunned from the air. He is now buried in the German cemetery at Maissemy Block 8 Grave 1492. The regiment also lost another nobleman Oberleutnant Graf [Count] Preysing at Hallu, which is an interesting silent comment on the social composition of the officers of this elite Bavarian regiment even towards the end of the war. As I say, there is no mention of burying Canadians. However, here for interest is a map of the action from the German perspective. Jack

ejwalshe Posted 10 May , 2016 Share Posted 10 May , 2016 I am scratching my head a little realizing the Canadians went through Hallu (again) after Aug 12th, when the Germans had already buried dead from the 78th Btn, yet the Canadian diaries record nothing of the sort. Nevertheless, with the Canadian diaries not recording recent graves, we know these clearly identified graves were there, and were recorded sometime in (late)1918-(early)1919 at the IWGC...Herbert Hunter was standing over the grave of his nephew Lt. Clifford Abram Neelands in August 1919. I wonder who informed the IWGC? It may have been the Germans long before the signing of the Armistice. FJ_VF168 Posted 1 June , 2016 Author Share Posted 1 June , 2016 Hi Guys ! Late as always :-) The K.B. Infanterie Leib Regiment has several (quite good) histories ! I haven't checked them yet because i am not home. Will be on friday with all my documents on Hands and i will check all KB ILR papers for Hallu and war graves. @Jack , which history have you been looking through ? Patrick
Jack Sheldon Posted 2 June , 2016 Share Posted 2 June , 2016 Patrick, I have a copy of the superbly produced, large format, 800 page history 'Das Koeniglich Bayerische Leib Infanterie-Regiment im Weltkrieg 1914/18'; Bearbeitet von Offizieren des Regiments; Schick, Muenchen 1931. It is one of the very best regimental histories and it cost me all my pocket money for weeks. Jack
FJ_VF168 Posted 3 June , 2016 Author Share Posted 3 June , 2016 Ok Guys here we go .. @ Jack : i was already guessing that you searched this history. Sad that you spent so much Money ... August or November Update it will be available digitally from me (already have the scans here but haven't put them togehter) .. 15 € for the whole thing :-) So enough Advertising KB Infanterie Leib Regiment (3 pieces) , KB Jäger Regiment 1 , KB Jäger Bataillon 2 , Reserve 65 history researched. All these mention nothing about burying any soldier. In fact The Jäger (south of KB Ínf Leib) mention a big reorganization on the front. The Bavarians pushed into some prussian units and there been some sort of "unarragements" (KB Inf Leib mentions it only in one book where they say that I RIR 65 and III RIR 95 been assigned to KB Inf Leib). The KB Inf Leib map from Jack also Shows that IR 95 was also in that vicinity. KB Jäger 1 also mention some prussian Units of 79th Reserve Division within the Jäger Regiment lines so they had to reorder by help of RJB 10 occupying the line while the Jäger Regiment reorders their lines. So before writing more. I haven't found any notices in any of These books about graves or anything, just nothing. Some casualty lists for the bavarians but thats it. But what the other histories reveal is some sort of disarragement of Units in that area so far and several comanies and bataillions from other Units that been involved These days. So far i read those papers there's a bunch of Units possible to bury those canadians. What i need to know in order to try to get dig in more and find the right books/papers is a) Where exactly did the Canadian 78th Btn attack (like specified on that map size above from Jack .... because Hallu is as specified as western front) at least i need to know approximately directly Center Hallu or more to the north or more to the south (the more precisely the better) Where exactly (on that map above) have been the graves discovered. I am already searching more papers. Sorry for the mixture of capital letters sometimes , this german Auto correction sucks ! Patrick
