The Guards Division history (now reprinted by N&MP) is pretty good on the support services within the division - I suggest you get hold of a copy of that.

A Divisional Signal Company was there to lay down the communications network for a division when it was in the line; everything from fixed telephone lines, to lamp stations, routes for runners etc. It was normally based out of the front line area (I think, for example, this unit was based at Elverdinge when the division attacked on 31/7/17 at Boesinghe), with elements of the unit operating in the front line area and on the battlefield.
