Has anyone any information regards Young Soldier Btn's and their role, also what does the T.R.6 prefix mean? Thanks Doug

HERITAGE PLUS Posted 1 September , 2003 Share Posted 1 September , 2003 In May 1917, 14 Battalions were designated Young Soldier Battalions. These Battalions took in and trained soldiers aged 18 years and one month. After completing basic training the young soldiers were posted in Company strength to Graduated Battalions. Twenty-eight Graduated Battalions were formed and linked in pairs to the Young Soldier Battalions, they would be used for Home Service while the soldiers within the Battalion finished their recruit training

Jock Bruce Posted 1 September , 2003 Share Posted 1 September , 2003 Doug, From an article in Stand To Winter 1992 by Terry Cave Each Training Reserve battalion was allocated a block of 4,000 numbers, and each man appointed or transferred to the Training Reserve was allotted one of these ..... The number was prefixed by T.R./ followed by the number of the District in which the Record Office the unit was located - there were twelve such districts, each responsible for the records and pay of several regiments.
