Remembered Today:

Zwartelen

Well, the title says it all really. A mate of mine asked me if I had a pre-war picture of Zwartelen. Having looked through numerous books without luck I thought I'd ask on the forum.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Ralph

Just bumping this one back to the top.

Can anyone help? Surely someone must have a pre-war pic of Zwartelen?

Pretty please!

Ralph Sorry can't help but would you happen to have a trench map / map / photo's of the Zwartelen salient. A family member was killed their in June 1915.

Thanks Martin

Sorry, Ralph, I know that you are counting on Ypres pals for that sort of thing, but I cannot help you.

Right after I saw your first posting some days ago I went through some books with photos of the Ypres area, but there was none with a Zwarteleen photo. And I can't say I remember ever having seen one.

Pre-war pics of a non-important hamlet like Zwarteleen are not really obvious I'm afraid.

But maybe someone else can help...

Aurel

Ralph,

I forwarded your question to a few member of the Zillebeke-Hollebeke historical society, and they don't have anything either.

If pictures were ever made, I don't think they have survived.

I can offer you a description of Zwarteleen prior to WW1 from a local publications, but alas, no picture.

If anything comes up, I will let you know.

regards,

Bert

I too would be interested in a description of Zwartelen prior to WW1 . Was Bert's offer ever taken up?
