J Banning Posted 6 January , 2006 Share Posted 6 January , 2006 Well, the title says it all really. A mate of mine asked me if I had a pre-war picture of Zwartelen. Having looked through numerous books without luck I thought I'd ask on the forum. Can anyone help? Many thanks Ralph
J Banning Posted 11 January , 2006 Author Share Posted 11 January , 2006 Just bumping this one back to the top. Can anyone help? Surely someone must have a pre-war pic of Zwartelen? Pretty please!

A family member was killed their in June 1915. Thanks Martin
Aurel Sercu Posted 11 January , 2006 Share Posted 11 January , 2006 Sorry, Ralph, I know that you are counting on Ypres pals for that sort of thing, but I cannot help you. Right after I saw your first posting some days ago I went through some books with photos of the Ypres area, but there was none with a Zwarteleen photo. And I can't say I remember ever having seen one. Pre-war pics of a non-important hamlet like Zwarteleen are not really obvious I'm afraid. But maybe someone else can help... J Banning Posted 11 January , 2006 Author Share Posted 11 January , 2006 Aurel - Thanks for looking anyway! So, the Zwarteleen photo hunt continues.....
Bert Heyvaert Posted 12 January , 2006 Share Posted 12 January , 2006 Ralph, I forwarded your question to a few member of the Zillebeke-Hollebeke historical society, and they don't have anything either. If pictures were ever made, I don't think they have survived. I can offer you a description of Zwarteleen prior to WW1 from a local publications, but alas, no picture. If anything comes up, I will let you know. regards, Bert
J Banning Posted 12 January , 2006 Author Share Posted 12 January , 2006 Cheers Bert, thanks for trying. I await any results from Pals in the future. Ralph
nf3996 Posted 6 October , 2010 Share Posted 6 October , 2010 I too would be interested in a description of Zwartelen prior to WW1 . Was Bert's offer ever taken up? Alan
