Hi all

I am trying to find out some information for my Dad about my Great Grandad, Thomas Stone. I have his copy of the book of common prayer, in which he has written that he was in the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment and I have been told he was a Bandsman. I don't know if he was in the Great War but have been told he served in the second Boer war. Could anyone help or point me in the right direction where I may be able to find some information about him. Any information at all would be much appretiated as the above information is all that I have. Thanks in advance. Carl.

Hi I could only find 1 bandsman Stone -wrong name and regiment, and 1 JT Stone of the Manchesters. If you go to the national archives website and try the search for all the Thomas Stones you may get lucky. The national archives however only covers those who were awarded medals in WW1 rather than the Boer war. How to investigate soldiers in the Great war is detailed elsewhere on the main Long Road site.
