Medals : Were all soldiers allocated 2?

HELP - on simple topics.

Were all soldiers who fought and died in WW1 awarded post. medals ? I have 4 medals handed down thro' generations and don't know anything about them.

Simple answer is no . It was possible to be awarded just 1 or up to 3 "campaign " medals. Then there may be braveryor long service. If you can scan or photo them add it to a post and someone will tell U all about them. If not describe the words on the medals and post that. Gareth

Army and RAF personnel who remained in the UK - or remained at home in one of the Dominions - did not receive any campaign medals; had to go overseas and/or enter theatre of war.

Exception was the RN & RM.

good point explodes a family story that one of the grandfathers served ashore in the war but got the medal pair. He got the medal pair all right cos Ive seen it , I wonder where he went though? Gareth
