Guest Richard Matthews Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 Can anyone help me please? My Grandfather joined the Suffolks in 1917 Fourght at Passchendaele and on the Somme and North Italy. Went over the top once was injured twice. Once in the elbow. In his medal box we have a piece of paper that reads: Private H G Matthews G/21391 2080 Queens Regiment 398 (typed on piece of paper) However we have two photographs of him. One with a Suffolk Regiment cap badge and the other with a Queens Regiment. The problem is that when he was discharged he was in the Queens. Guest Richard Matthews Posted 28 December , 2005 Share Posted 28 December , 2005 Hi Ian, Many thanks for replying. He was injured so maybe he was posted out to North Italy with The Queens Regiment. He said that it was lovely out there!! (he told my father)
