Guest neryone Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 (edited) Hello I am trying to locate my Husbands Grandad John Thomas JACKSON An elderly Aunt has discharge papers for 3301166 Pte. Jackson JT Highland Light Infantry. No idea what dates are on said discharge papers but Grandad Jackson was awarded 3 medals and also MiD. I have searched countless sites including NA and have found nothing. Elderly Aunt has had picture and recast medals mounted but we have no actual proof that he served.all help gratefully received. Neil Mackenzie Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 Neryone. Welcome to the Forum. Is there any way you can get an idea of the information on the discharge papers from your relative and/or post a photo of the medals? I am sure if you can that someone will be able to point you in the right direction. Another new member (Phil Jackman) also had a relative in the HLI. In this thread he refers to the HLI Chronicle. It may be worth contacting him to see if he has a copy and can find reference to John's MiD or if he can tell you where a copy can be obtained. You need to narrow down the dates first though. eviltaxman Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 I'm no expert, but the serial number you've quoted is too big for WW1, possibly relates to post war once the numbers had been "unified". The online medal index cards has a Private John T Jackson of the HLI -----> here There are a handful of John Jackson's of the HLI, so it may be worthwhile downloading the card for this one. You get 6 to a sheet, even though you're paying (£3.50) for one. Les
Auimfo Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 The only one I can find for the HLI is as follows (info from medal index cards) Medal card of Jackson, John T Corps: Highland Light Infantry Regiment No: 51158 Rank: Private... Don't know if he's the same man but there were no other John T Jackson's who served with the HLI in WW1. Is it possible he served prior to or after WW1? Tim L. welshdoc Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 2 more outside possibilities (if your grandad was busted) as these were both apparently MID Medal card of Jackson, J Corps: Highland Light Infantry Regiment No: 5108 Rank: Serjeant 1914-1920 WO 372/24 Medal card of Jackson, J Corps: Highland Light Infantry Regiment No: 5925 Rank: Corporal 1914-1920 WO 372/

We are thinking along these very lines, I think my next step is to contact MOD as he most probably served into the early 1920's. Most impressed by the fonts of knowledge on this forum, very much appreciated. Paula X
eviltaxman Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 Paula, I just noticed on the picture you've supplied, it looks like there is a ribbon bar on his uniform - possibly 3 medals! Any chance of a hi-res close up to confirm it? Les. ps....... welcome to the mad house.... if you're not mad yet, you soon will be
