If it was a book I had written, then I'd be glad (although a little put-out) to have any errors pointed out or suggestions put forward for making the book better. As it is, I took the said book with me on my first battlefield visit, which was fortunate as it was to the Somme

Our community should be glad to see such committed guys like Paul. It is not a question of commercialism - it is a question of dedication (since I guess that Paul does not become rich with this book , but maybe the publisher)
Jonathan Saunders Posted 26 August , 2003 Posted 26 August , 2003 This is simply a "must have" for anyone going to the Somme whether for the first or umpteenth time. Paul also did a Walking the Salient which I have not yet used but expect is an equally essential field book.

Never heard anything but praise on this book. Several of our guests went out to the tourist office of Ypres to obtain there own copy, so that is the best proof it is good value for money!

Pauls great advantage is that he is not elitise, and as this Forum shows he is always willing to help. His Books should aways be in your pocket. Mine are well worn and have given me a good insight into the Battlefields. Martin

And I hate to even crack the spine on my softback books, which results in some strange peering into half-open pages. Having said that, my Walking the Somme is in very poor condition - mainly because it has spent many hours with me on the Somme, rain or shine. This is one that is far more valuable in my rucksack than at home on the shelf. I took it on my first Somme visit and thoroughly recommend it, especially for new visitors to the area. Chris_Baker Posted 12 October , 2003 Posted 12 October , 2003 "Walking the Somme" is an excellent book and useful for beginner and experienced battlefield visior. Highly recommended - and I'm afraid I can't say that about all the Battleground Europe series.
