1916 Irish Uprising - units deployed?

As some of you already know, I have been trying to track down my Grandfathers WW1 war history. We knew he was RHA 8 Reserve Bn, I suspected he enlisted 1916 (even though he was only 14) confirmed today from a family member. The forum had established that his Bn did not go into a field of operation but was held over at Burford for the duration. Info obtained today stated that he was actually sent to Ireland as part of the uprising containment, then went to Turkey post war as part of the occupying forces, remained a reserve until 1938m and then become fully operation for WW2.

Has anybody got any info or links that could help confirm any of this? we all know how, errmmmm, selective relatives memories can be so I would love to get hold of some hard facts. I suspect I am going to have to get hold of his war record but my father (next of kin) will not write on my behalf. Can I write to them myself?

Oh, and a merry Christmas, funny how our quest for knowledge doesnt seem to take a holiday!
