Guest Richard Matthews Posted 24 December , 2005 Share Posted 24 December , 2005 My Grandfather joined the Suffolk regiment in 1917 at Bury St Edmunds and then went to France where he served on The Somme and at Passchendaele. He was injured and then went back out to Italy with the Queens Regiment. Can anyone help me to find out which unit or part of The Suffloks that he served with. I would love to know more. Guest Richard Matthews Posted 27 December , 2005 Share Posted 27 December , 2005 ok mate thanks. I have sent you an email. My Grandfather joined the Suffolks in 1917 Fourght at Passchendaele and on the Somme and North Italy. Went over the top once was injured twice. Once in the elbow. In his medal box we have a piece of paper that reads: Private H G Matthews G/21391 2080 Queens Regiment 398 (typed on piece of paper) However we have two photographs of him. One with a Suffolk Regiment cap badge and the other with a Queens Regiment. The problem is that when he was discharged he was in the Queens.
