Guest denben Posted 22 December , 2005 Share Posted 22 December , 2005 My local rugby club has a pair of 'memorial gates'. These consist of large steel gates with bronze plaques attached. The plaques carry the names of members who died in service during The Great War. A group of us would like to restore this memorial. Does anyone know where we could get advice or do we need to use a specialist firm?
Peter Bennett Posted 22 December , 2005 Share Posted 22 December , 2005 Try the War Memorials Trust for expert advice. http://www.warmemorials.org/
Bernard_Lewis Posted 23 December , 2005 Share Posted 23 December , 2005 Maybe try your local council to see if it will help with albour or funding. If the gates remember local men the Councul may well want to be involved. Bernard
Anthony Bagshaw Posted 23 December , 2005 Share Posted 23 December , 2005 The Local Council shpuld be interested to hear, the local paper definitelty would. In my experience the War Memorial trust aren't really that helpful, but as i say that is in my experience. I have almost managed to get a war memorial restored purely through the Local Council, the War Memorial trust sent me a load of info on what they do and not much more. Good luck!! Chris_Baker Posted 23 December , 2005 Share Posted 23 December , 2005 You might also talk to the Memorials Officer at the Western Front Association.
