dove Posted 19 August , 2019 Share Posted 19 August , 2019 WOW! Thank you all so much for this information although tinged with sadness to learn his medals have been auctioned. My mum had his medals for many years before harassment from her brother led to giving him the medals supposedly to put into Stirling Castle as he lived in the area. After his death my mum asked his son about the medals and he said he’d never heard of them?! Considering he was called after my grandfather I find it hard to believe he hadn’t heard the story, but now to see them up for auction....well....this deserves more investigation is all I can say right now. Thank you again I can’t express how grateful I am!
dove Posted 20 August , 2019 Share Posted 20 August , 2019 Update: huge thanks ‘helpjpl’ for all the information but especially about my grandfathers medals being sold at auction. I immediately contacted the auction house realising due to confidentiality they could not share either the seller or buyers details. However I asked if they could contact the buyer and ask if he or she would be willing to sell the medals back to the family. I received an email today stating they have no details on the private buyer who bought the lot and if it had been an account customer they would have been sold on by now to a private collector?! To say I’m distraught is an understatement I always hoped and prayed they would turn up some day at Stirling Castle never in a million years on an auction site! The person we knew had them died 25 years past and is survived by a very wealthy son, the whole situation defies belief! I will not stop and continue trying to find my grandfathers medals it’s the least he deserves. Huge thanks once again to everyone who has helped me learn so much more about my grandfather I appreciate it beyond words!
MaxD Posted 20 August , 2019 Share Posted 20 August , 2019 Look out for them being re-sold on Ebay perhaps. Max
dove Posted 20 August , 2019 Share Posted 20 August , 2019 Thanks Max I will, also looking at dealers who specialise in military medals to make enquires, long shot but all are worth trying to track them down! Really thought the auction house would have had the sale details on record but alas no, so I will keep on looking, thank you!
brianmorris547 Posted 16 February Share Posted 16 February There are a few threads about Harry Lauder's son, but I thought that this picture from the Bedfordshire Times 22/01/1915 was proper to this one. I have been reading about the Highland Division training in Bedford before going to France in May 1915. BNL via FMP Brian
