Steve Bramley Posted 14 December , 2005 Share Posted 14 December , 2005 (edited) Hi All, This is an enquiry for a friend at work. Medal card of Whisson, William Henry London Regiment 1837 Private Middlesex Regiment 1837 Private Name: WHISSON, WILLIAM HENRY Initials: W H Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Second Lieutenant Regiment: Middlesex Regiment Unit Text: 10th Bn. Transferred to either 1/10th or 2/10th Middlesex. Later Commisssioned. Both these Battns served in 'other theatres' for the duration of the war, so after gaining Comm' attached to another unit in France, DOW (SDGW) very early into his commission? Or transferred to 3/10 Middlesex after serving in F/F with Londons, then back out to France attached to another unit? Any thoughts please, Regards, Steve. Stebie9173 Posted 15 December , 2005 Share Posted 15 December , 2005 London Gazette 6-9-1915 The Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment). Private William Henry Whisson (junior), from The London Regiment, to be Second Lieutenant. Dated 7th September, 1915. http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...&selHonourType= Interesting. Never seen the comment "(junior)" before on a Gazette entry... Steve. Terry_Reeves Posted 15 December , 2005 Share Posted 15 December , 2005 (edited) His service record appears to be available at the National Archive in WO374 / 73522. It covers the years 1913 - 1922 so he seems to have pre-war service. Although he died in 1917, the correspondence continues until after the war , which is not that unusual. It is likely that his OR service papers will be in the same file. Terry Reeves Edited 15 December , 2005 by Terry_Reeves
Steve Bramley Posted 15 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 15 December , 2005 Steve, Thanks for the two links. perhaps his father was a member of the same Battn.? Terry also many thanks for the NA reference, I shall add this to my list for next time. If anyone else could add anything it would be appreciated, no doubt all will be revealed on my next visit to the NA, but you know what we're like... Regards, Steve.
