Raster Scanning Posted 14 December , 2005 Share Posted 14 December , 2005 I have a book on the Fourth Army in the battles of the hundred days (August-November 1919). The flyleaf has been signed by the owner (see below) I cannot decipher the name but have worked out that the rest says "Major A Jack*** R.E. D.A.D.E.S Calais Area 1919" Please can anyone inform me who the Royal Engineer Major was and what D.A.D.E.S stood for? Many thanks John.

Rob B Posted 14 December , 2005 Share Posted 14 December , 2005 Have just spoken to an ex Sapper Brigadier and he said with confidence it was "Deputy Assistant Director Engineering Services" as at that time the Royal Engineers were responsible for all Engineering services. Cheers, Rob
