Harry Patch

Just thought you might like to know that Harry has been in an article in today's Evil Post (as we call it). He's getting an honoury Master of Arts degree from Bristol University. Seems he's chuffed to bits to be getting it.

The article also goes on to say that the building he'll be receiving it in, he helped to build after WW1.

If anyone is interestd in a copy of the article, let me know and I'll scan it and e-mail it on. I was going to place a pic of it, but it would be huge - nearly half a page, so the quality wouldn't be quite good enough.

I see they didn't put this story online. How can it rate half a page, but not an online link, when the person in question has been in the national spotlight recently?

Angie, I noticed that too. Seems they can cover a story to do with toilets, but not our Harry!

I assume you haven't seen the article - do you fancy a scanned copy? If you do, contact me off forum with your e-mail addy and I'll do the biz.

Thanks, Les, for sending the article. The photo of Harry Patch is a CRACKER, absolutely beautiful. I'd never have seen this otherwise.

Thanks,

Marina

Angie, Marina

It was a great pic wasn't it. For those that haven't seen it, Harry is leaning back in his wheel chair with that smile of his, medal too - great!

A real trooper!!

Well, I've just been cheeky and written to the Uni and asked if the presentation will be by invite only. I would like to go just to meet him and shake his hand, if nothing else.

Les

ps....... I also plugged the forum ;)

When I wrote this thread, I also e-mailed the Uni to see when it would be and if the public could get an invite..... only to see (and hopefully meet Harry). Up to this morning, just before leaving for work - no reply from the Uni.

Another thread has started on todays news - Today's coverage

This afternoon a work mate said it was today and that Radio Bristol would be doing some sort of coverage - thanks a lot Bristol Uni!!!

Hopefully the local news will have something to air.

Les,

Thanks for updating. The link was wonderful. Harry is such a humble humane human.

What a star.

Thanks for the thanks

I'm a bit annoyed that the Uni never got back to me, but I hope in the not too distant future I can get to meet him.... he only lives in Bath (I'm in Bristol, 20 miles down the road).

Harry certainly looks very well for his age. The gown suited him and he looked right chuffed.

Hi Les

Noticed you had a relation in 1/6th Gloucestershire Regiment.

I am researching my Grandad (Hallam Trapnell) who was in 1/4th Gloucestershire Regiment.

You couldn't give me any pointers as to what you may have found useful that I can either access online or publications local to Bristol? (He grew up in Clifton as did the whole family, and my sister still lives there)

Any info or advice is helpful!

Best regards

Mark Trapnell
