Stebie9173 Posted 12 December , 2005 Share Posted 12 December , 2005 Just appeared in my Inbox on the 1837Online Newsletter: The Lost Generation - Tracing First World War casualties Many of you have been moved by the recent Channel 4 series Lost Generation, which uncovered the stories of the generation that had their lives, loves, hopes and dreams annihilated on the battlefields of the First World War. If you're tracing an ancestor who died in combat, they are not recorded in the usual death indexes - you'll find them tucked away in the Overseas records, as the deaths occurred on the continent. To search, change the event type to Deaths and scroll down to select either GRO War Deaths Army Officers Indices (1914 - 1921) or GRO War Deaths Army Other Ranks Indices (1914 - 1921). Armed with the full GRO reference obtained from these records, you can order the death certificate for the individual soldier, direct from the GRO. Coming soon - new records for 2006 The new year will be a busy one for the 1837online.com team, with regular launches of new datasets and services for you to search throughout the year, starting in January. First to appear will be our new military and service records section, with 'Soldiers Died in the First World War' launched first, and other military records following swiftly. Your thoughts Ladies and Gentlemen? MICs? Service Records? Medal Rolls? QSAM, etc.? Pre1914 Service Records. WWII Service Records? (Highly unlikely, I know) Steve. sandyford Posted 12 December , 2005 Share Posted 12 December , 2005 Thanks for pointing this out Steve. Could be something to look forward to. I personally would love to see medal rolls, service records & or SWB details. Not much to ask I know. Kate
