PBI Posted 11 December , 2005 Share Posted 11 December , 2005 After searching for my uncles name on a war memorial....eureka..today i found out that after the great war his memorial plaque at the London HMSO was moved to NORWICH of all places,so his name is there along with many "vanished " men from Southwark and Inner London,i phoned my old Mum and told her,she was speechless. My Uncles name is Rifleman John (Jack) Ford. 5516 17th Battalion,The London Regiment,(Poplar and Stepney Rifles) K.I.A. at High Wood. 15.091916. Age 23 Buried Caterpillar Valley Cem. Congratulations on your success - those 'Eureka!' moments happen infrequently but it makes them all the more special when they do happen. How did you finally track the memorial down? PBI Posted 12 December , 2005 Author Share Posted 12 December , 2005 i was working late,and was simply looking on the Web Site entitled ROLL OF HONOUR,and happened to look on the list of war memorials for Norwich and lo and behold there it was.Legend had itin our Family that Jack had worked in fleet Street before the war so it all links in.
