I was musing at work this morning as to how many exclusively CWGC cemeteries there are in the UK. Anyone know?

There are 12,367 CWGC cemetery sites in the UK.

However, if you mean, those owned and operated by CWGC (excluding memorials) such as those on the Western Front etc, the answer is only one. The remainder are sites with CWGC plots, MoD plots or scattered graves (both CWGC and private) but owned by other authorities.

Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey.

Terry,

Thanks for the speedy reply, not entirely unexpected.

The cemetery which prompted my question is that at Broadhurst Green, Cannock Chase, in Staffordshire. I believed that to be exclusively CWGC, am I wrong?

Thinking about it....

If by 'excusively CWGC' you mean that it only contains Commonwealth War Graves, then Brookwood would not count as there are a few private graves there also (some predating the cemetery's construction).

That one is on MoD land but is run by CWGC so that may qualify if you wish.

You are too kind sir!

I seem to remember that it has a few 'original' German graves which were left in situ rather than be moved to the larger German cemetery, created in the sixties, just down the road.

I'm counting it in anyway. :)
