Medal Card interpretation.

I am intending to download an image of my Great Uncle's medal car and on viewing it he appears to have two regimental numbers.

He is listed as: Private Frank Bowe no 4275, and Private Frank Bowe 266692. The second number is the one I am familiar with.

Does this mean the he was enlisted twice?

Sue,

No.

What this means is that he was a Territorial and re-numbered during 1917. All the Territorial Battalions were renumbered during 1917

4275 is his pre 1917 number.

Hope this helps.

As the earlier reply says it is the 1/7 Battallion of the West Yorks. My Great Uncle was KIA in 1917 at Passchendale. Any information would be gratefully received. I am particularly needing information on his regimental Career, all I know is when and where he died.

Thanks for your interest.

Sue
