Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts

Hi All,

I am after any info or photos (copies of),including grave/memorial photos of men from Mansfield Woodhouse, whether a casualty or not, that the PALS may have or have seen.

If you have medals/plaques etc i would also be interested to hear from you too. I am not after purchasing them but would just like to know if they are out there. If you have any and don't want to post, please PM me instead.

Any info, however small it may seem will be very gratefully received.

Thanks

Sorry mate. I've been through the 500 or so records of Tibshelf men in my database, and despite being only a few miles apart I 've got none other than Walter Adlington whose details I've already passed on to you.

Annette - Mansfield Woodhouse is a unique place neighbouring Mansfield (Very unique........... :o )

If you would like a photograph of Cpl Albert Davies' gravestone at Dozinghem, pm your email address. Cpl Davies is one of the men I am researching from the Rhayader Memorial.

Myrtle,

I do have a photo of the War Memorial, i can send you a copy if you wanted one.

It doesn't appear that Cpl Davies is one of my men so wont have anything on him i'm afraid.

Annette,

That will explain your interest then!! If there's anything i can do let me know!!

Hi Anthony,

Ball, Dunn, Hutchinson and Munks all appear to have been part of a draft of men who enlisted in the Leics in the first months of the war and transferred to the Lincolns in late November 1914. I haven't been able to determine why the transfer happened. Would be interested to see whether any of the obituaries confirm this. The majority of the men in the transfer went to the 1st and 2nd Lincs in drafts in the spring and summer of 1915, although a minority went to service battalions.

Ball-the war diary for his date of death, I think, is on the main website.

Dunn and Hutchinson-Bellewarde Ridge

Marsh and Sarigson would have enlisted around 20 Jan 1915

Saxilby-probably enlisted around 12 Jan 1915

Hope this helps,

Jim
