Motor Fishing Boat Jane S was mined and sunk with the loss of 5 lives on 14 August 1917, 11 miles SE from St Abb's Head.

Many thanks for the information. Its always nice to know what happened.

My search started with a £1 victory medal found in a dish of buttons and assorted odds and ends in a brick a brack shop. Its amazing what turns up!

Kind regards

Fred

I have just come across this post while searching for family history.  I have information that there were three Alexander Boyter's and the one cited above is not the son of the Thomas Boyter killed in the mine explosion on fishing boat Jane.  Thomas Boyter's son Alexander Boyter's Service Number was 2205. 7th Bn. and he was killed on 30 May 1916 aged 25.  He is buried at Maroeuil British Cemetery.  The newspaper report of the sinking of the Jane, with all hands, appeared in the Fife Free Press on Sat. 18th August 1917. Thomas Boyter was married to my grandfathers sister Helen Brown Boyter and they lived at 1 Rodger Street.  This information may not be of any use to you now as I see the post is many years old; however, I  hope it may be of some use to researchers.  All the best,  Joyce
