Jim Strawbridge Posted 5 December , 2005 Share Posted 5 December , 2005 I was under the impression that the Royal Naval Reserve service numbers were unique in that each man had a number which corresponded with a register page with his service details. I now have two medals with the same service number. 400 D.A. A.E. JOHNSON. 2.HD. 400 D.A. H. IVATT. D.H. Has any one seen this before or is it likely to be that one of the medals has been misinscribed?
welshdoc Posted 5 December , 2005 Share Posted 5 December , 2005 Hi , I understand that although the Royal Navy have a single number which stays with the rating , this is not the case with the RNR. Apparently every (I think) 5 years when they re-enlist they have a new number and new card. this means that some PNR servicemen have several service numbers and record cards. By all account each time they re-enlist they also have a new letter as Suffix (or prefix) wherever someone decides to put it. Therefore in the RNR you can get for the same man medals stamped for example A123 , 123A and later B256 etc. Complicated aint it. (Thanks to others on the forum for explianing bits of this to me).
