welshdoc Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 As the "Medal Stock Market" crashed!!!!!!! How much do we think - nows certainly a good time to buy but maybe not sell. The value, its got to be in well in exess of £1000 for a regiment, your best bet is scan all the main medal dealers see if theres any in their stocks. Remember they will be at least 25%-50% higher than in the open markrt. Gareth
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 Sensibly, you cannot put a "Going Rate" on such a combination as so many factors will come into play, If a "Citation" is known{from local papers, etc};Theatre Of war for Both MM & Bar{RF could for example be for NREF???};dates of awards[London Gazette];numbers awarded to the Battalion/Regiment of both MM & Bar{which wont be that many in the case of the Bar anyway}If the Recipient was KiA,Wounded,POW,Etc;all this notwithstanding a confirmed MM & Bar group is going to start @ above £1000,probably heading towards the £2000 Mark;if any unusual aspects concerning its award turn up.Also a lot will depend on wether you are buying or selling or valuing for insurance/probate etc;
Coldstreamer Posted 3 December , 2005 Share Posted 3 December , 2005 Hello also depends on the day and how much you "need" them I was lucky to get 2 MM and bar medals last year (missed one though ) - the single cost more than the one that was with the pair - but the single was in slightly better condition and the MM* and pair was missing the 15 star All these factors count Ian
Guest scott leader Posted 5 December , 2005 Share Posted 5 December , 2005 So where looking at halfway (Ish) between £1000 - £2000.???? Would £1300 be on the chep side then?, condition is GVF/NEF
welshdoc Posted 5 December , 2005 Share Posted 5 December , 2005 Hi Ive quickly trawled the internet and could only come up with 1 this is the the RGA a single MM with bar at £700. If you take into consideration the value increases with a full medal set. Yours is a regiment rather than a Corps then £1300 sounds fair. Against is the market is in a slight slump and dealers always charge the top end of the value scale. If your buying try to get the seller down a couple of hundred. If selling hang on for a while to see if the market changes. If your a loopy collector the value does not really come into the equation (within certain limits ). At he end of the day do your research are there any interesting dates associated with the award and see if you can find any similar groups on the internet to compare value. Go with your gut feeling.
