Bob,

The OBAT states that XV Corps [France] HQ @ Heilly, took over the 7th and 21st Divisions from XIII Corps on 29th April 1916.

XIII Corps does not actually show or mention the 21st Division. However, XIII Corps came under the command of the Third Army and believe it or not the Division and the Corps do not get a mention.

July 1915: The Third Army took over part of the front line from the French Second Army [which was held by the French XI and XIV Corps], a fifteen-mile stretch running from Curlu on the Somme to Hebuterne, with the French Tenth Army to the northward between the left of the Third Army and the right of the British First Army, which was opposite Lens [20 miles from Hebuterne]. It was not until March, 1916, when the Fourth Army came into being, that the Third Army moved northward, relieved the French Tenth Army, and at last the British line ran unbroken from Lens, through Hebuterne, to Curlu. At this time the 70- mile British Front extended from Boesinghe [north of Ypres ] to Curlu on the Somme.

I hope from the information given, that you might be able to find out where they were!

Arthur
