Newbie Question.

I've just come across a Picture Postcard which shows several soldiers of the above company, one of which is I believe my Great uncle.

On the reverse is the following:

P?? J Frayne 166025

Company 5 A.S.C.M.T

Osterley Park

L.W.Middlesex

any help with my research would be appreciated.

Rob

Osterly was one of the ASC depots in London; lots of driver training was undertaken there.

Will provide more info tomorrow when I can check my copy of the ASC history ;)

Frayne - sorry for the delay - I couldn't find my copy of the Corps history.

Osterly Park was one of the several locations in Greater London which acted as a depot for receiving ASC recruits, then training and testing them as MT drivers. These men spent several weeks in training, each had to learn to drive 4 types of vehicles, not exceeding 8 mph, and the training routes included Marble Arch, Hyde Park Corner, Oxford Circus and Pall Mall.

Instructors were found from, amongst other sources, the London General Omnibus Company. I have seen several picures of ASC trainee drivers with their LGOC instructors, the latter wearing a large white overcoat with an ASC badge in their company hat.

Thanks Captain for the information. There is one guy in the photo that is dressed different to the rest, although he is wearing a Dark long coat, yes, he's definately the Instructor.

Thanks Again
