Graeme Heavey Posted 26 November , 2005 Share Posted 26 November , 2005 Hi all. I am struggling with the info I have on my great grandfathers service. His MIC says he was 4 RF. This was a regular battalion. He wasnt a regular and he entered the theatre of war on 11/11/14. The MIC also states he got Victory, British and 1914 Star with clasp and roses IV 2517c then d/10.2.21. Also awarded Silver war badge List E/759 Someone please explain for me! Great site!! Graeme
Chris_Baker Posted 26 November , 2005 Share Posted 26 November , 2005 Hello Graeme Do have a read of the section on researching a soldier, which you'll find by clicking the link top-left of this page to The Long, Long Trail. You'll find sections on the medals, clasp and roses and war badge. Your GGF may not have been a regular, but for him to be joining a regular unit as early as November 1914 there is a good chance he was a reservist, possibly of the Special Reserve. LLT also has a section telling you what that was. Good luck!

I have traced his brother Patrick Heavey aswell today and he too was discharged on 14/9/16 from the depot of The Border Regt, SWB etc etc so I'll be off to Kew soon to look up their list entries as I have them on the medal cards.
