Julian Whippy Posted 27 November , 2005 Share Posted 27 November , 2005 AGWR ?? Is that you ? I last saw you draped on a chair in the officers mess last night through a haze of cigar smoke swirling a scotch discussing the offside rule ! (and the Addicks / Hammers !! ) If not I apologise profusely,,,,,, JW
AGWR Posted 27 November , 2005 Share Posted 27 November , 2005 Pte Charles Terry ( FORMERLY 8901 ROYAL WEST KENT REGT.) was in A Company. He was posted missing on 28th April 1917 along with most of his company. The battalion's objectives were Oppy Wood and Oppy Village. They got as far as the western outskirts of village before a German counter-attack swept the survivors back through the wood to their starting positions. I have got a mass of paperwork dealing with this attack, but I need to sort it all out first. In the meantime, I could PM you the battalion war diary entry if that would be of interest. Is there a family connection with Pte Terry? Regards, AGWR PS You have probably got this information about him already but if you haven't... Hambo Posted 28 November , 2005 Author Share Posted 28 November , 2005 AGWR A copy of the war diary entry would be great thanks. the interest is that he should be on the local memorial but isn't. This is part of the process to get he and four others recognised and all the info I can get will help. Thanks Hambo Hope the head's better!
