joseph Posted 24 November , 2005 Share Posted 24 November , 2005 Dave, His service certificates are available online, you can down load them for 3.50 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...1&resultcount=3 Regards Charles
DirtyDick Posted 24 November , 2005 Share Posted 24 November , 2005 His number gives enlistment in 1917, presumably as an adult recruit who entered at the entry rank of Ordinary Seaman (one below AB). Entitled to the BWM and Vic. if he served at sea or land theatre during WW1; BWM alone if he stayed in the UK.

Much appreciated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you are after his medals, it would be worth joining eBay and have the surname (unusual) set as a key word in the Collectables section (Militaria could be too narrow). Actually best to do this on eBay Canada as that will (for some reason) show worldwide results rather than just UK. This can be done via the My eBay section. You would then receive an automated email from them whenever an item matched the surname. Pair like that would probably fetch only about £25-30, so worth it even if you are not a medal collector.
