Ian Underwood Posted 17 August , 2003 Share Posted 17 August , 2003 This item should perhaps be tagged onto the 'life in the navy' topic, but I thought it was such a good find I did'nt want to bury it at the tail end of a thread. I stumbled across this fantastic and detailed diary of a young midshipman from Australia who served on HMS Royal Sovereign at Scapa Flow. To quote from the into of the diary. "The diaries provide an intriguing insight in to the life of a Midshipman under training, of his thoughts on life in the Royal Navy and those he met in those uncertain times; including comments on what was happening else where in the War which provides an interesting time-line" http://www.pbenyon.plus.com/Scapa_Diary/Index.html Ian. Jonathan Saunders Posted 1 September , 2003 Share Posted 1 September , 2003 I would add my thanks for putting us onto this "gem". I was very interested to read his entries between 9 and 15 July 1917 and relating to the loss of HMS VANGUARD. Many thanks.
