delta Posted 22 November , 2005 Share Posted 22 November , 2005 75057 Pte Frederick Burrows joined the Tank Corps from the ASC, having been one of the drivers at Flers Courcellette on 15th Sep 1916. The Tank Corps Book of Honour shows that he was KIA or DOW at a later time but I cannot find his record on the CWGC web-site. Could someone with a SDGW check to see if he is listed there? delta Posted 28 February , 2010 Author Share Posted 28 February , 2010 In the past few years, I have managed to track down most of the First Tank Crews. Almost five years on from the first post, Frederick Burrows still eludes me. I have checked CWGC, SDGW and the Ancestry site with no success. Grateful for a steer for any other way ahead Stephen

delta Posted 1 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 1 March , 2010 Grant Thanks for the offfer of help. He was originally in the ASC as M2/191132 Dvr (so an MT man). He rebadged MGC then Tank Corps (Private 75057); the number was ina series issued to many of the origianlly members of 711 MT Coy who transferred in 1917. The Tank Corps RoH shows he was KIA/DoW and lived in Liverpool. Stephen
grantowi Posted 1 March , 2010 Share Posted 1 March , 2010 Stephen, Cant see any trace of him, not on GRO Army death list. Might have DOW as a civillian but without an age to work from thats a guessing game. You proberly know there were at least two other Frederick BURROWS in the tank corps: Frederick W - Pt, 111746 Frederick - Pt, 304812 (also in Royal West Kent - 2290 and Kings Royal Rifle Corps - 52416) Is it possable that one of them is the Kia/Dow in the book? If hr died then it was either under another number or he'd been discharged. Craig

Don Regiano Posted 23 July , 2016 Share Posted 23 July , 2016 In Trevor Pidgeon's "the tanks at Flers" he is listed in Appendix 1 as Pte F Burrows A.S.C. M2/191132 as a member of D18, attached to the 41st Division. The tank attacked up the western side of Flers. Reg
IPT Posted 24 July , 2016 Share Posted 24 July , 2016 I'd suggest that he joined between 16th and 19th June 1916 and went abroad quite quickly, maybe even early July. We're almost certainly looking for a chauffeur, mechanic, coachman or motor driver. Although we have a Liverpool clue, the majority (but not all) of men in that ASC number range were from the London area. I did have a trawl through the census last night but couldn't nail down any of my suspects.

delta Posted 13 October , 2017 Author Share Posted 13 October , 2017 John James Chappell arrived in France at the same time as A Company so think you have found another early member of 711 Coy who did not join the Tank Corps Many thanks for your ongoing supprot
