Guest gany Posted 18 November , 2005 Share Posted 18 November , 2005 Hello I've just found this site. My Grandfather served in the 1st Life Gaurds Battallion in the BEF and was wounded (listed in the regimental diary for 1914/15). I am intending on locating his service record at some stage. He served under a Captain Spicer and after the war worked for him as head groom at Spye Park in Wiltshire..which has since been sold off by the family. Has anyone else researched relatives from the Life Guards. Regards gany

You may need to post again, with Life Guards somewhere in the title. Things have picked up a little since 11/11 and there are a lot of other scompeting for help. Hope you find what you want Dave

stiletto_33853 Posted 19 November , 2005 Share Posted 19 November , 2005 Hi Gany, Interesting units to research. My grandfather and great uncle were both in the Life Guards 2nd Battalion(see my signature), fortunately both survived the war having been in France since early August 1914, my great uncle only to die of illness in 1919 and buried in Brompton Cemetery having won the MM in the early part of 1916. Best of luck with the research. Andy
Robert Dunlop Posted 19 November , 2005 Share Posted 19 November , 2005 Welcome Gany. I presume from your note that you have a copy of the 'War Diary of the 1st Life Guards (First Year 1914-1915)', published by Naval and Military Press.
