canadian battalions in ypres???

The simple answer is virtually all of those that served on the Western Front; all 4 Canadian divisions served here between 1915 and 1917. Do you have a particular time scale in mind?

In 1915 the 1st Canadian Division was involved; in June 1916 at Hooge and Hill 62 it was largely the 3rd Division, and at Third Ypres the entire Canadian Corps. During this period every Canadian battalion served at Ypres. Try searching the net for Orders of Battle for these formations so you know which units were invloved. Bert at the IFF Documentcentre in Ypres may be able to help further if you live in Flanders?

Hi Gregory,

To add to the information given by Paul I can recommend the following website: http://www.cefresearch.com/phpBB2/.

You'll find a lot of information there about the battles which interest you and any questions you have can be posed there as well.

Cheers,

Michael

Hi, I have it in my head that Princess Patricias' were out there, I know my grandfather joined the New Brunswicks in ??Winnipeg, but definately Manitoba to gain passage to Europe then had to transfer to a UK unit as he was a UK citizen. dessie

Don't forget 1916. The Battle for Mount Sorrel, for instance. Once again the P.P.C.L.I. took a tremendous hammering from the German Artillery bombardments & Infantry attacks, but refused to give up.

For those who are interested in this battle, here is a link to an Orbat.

Detailed War Diary extracts & other information can be found here.

Cheers,

Michael
