Royal Garrison Artillery Regiment No 98518

I am trying to find out about my Granddad's first World War record.

All I know is that his name was Arthur Edmond Damon and that he served in the Royal Garrison Artillery. His Medal Card says that his regiment number was 98518.

Can anyone tell me how to go about finding out what Battalion/Unit he was in (does his regiment number give any clues to this?), so that I can start to find out where and what he did in the war.
