Tony Gee Posted 14 November , 2005 Share Posted 14 November , 2005 I have been watching this site for awhile (skulking) and I am impressed with the civility of the discussions and also the depth of knowledge posessed by the members. This question is probably so niave that you will laugh. My father, before he passed away, told me he had two uncles (Isaac and Sam Gee) who were in the war. I immediately thought of the first world war but going by the 1881 census this would put them in their late thirties. I thought I would start by looking at the 1901 census but all I can find are sites that charge. I don't have anything against paying but could anybody recemmend a good site that delivers what it says? regards Tony

A quick check of 'Samuel Gee' produces 19 medal index cards (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/search-results.asp?searchtype=browserefine&query=first_name%3dsamuel%7clast_name%3dgee&catid=10&pagenumber=1&querytype=1&mediaarray=*) but nothing for Isaac. Guest sheilatho Posted 14 November , 2005 Share Posted 14 November , 2005 Hi Try the 1901 census site http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ although they will charge you to look at the images and households you can learn a fair amount from the basic search results without paying anything. Alternatively, if you give me the details from the 1881 census that you found (piece/folio and page number, which you will find under source info on the bottom of the page if you got the census returns from Family Search0, and I could have a quick look for you via my subcription to ancestry.co.uk, for 1891 & 1901 returns. Grey Squirrel Posted 14 November , 2005 Share Posted 14 November , 2005 I had a quick look at 1901 census for you and found brothers Isaac and Samuel Gee at Ludworth, Derbyshire: could these be your men? Isaac was 28 and Samuel 17, i.e. born circa 1872/73 and 1883/84 respectively. Their parents were Ralph and Anne. Do you think these are your men?
