HMS or 'Tug' Chichester

I have been tracking down a relative and from his service record found he was posted to HMS Wildfire which I am told was the Sheerness/Brightlingsea Auxiliary Patrol boat base. The record is faint and we were unable to decipher a note in brackets after the mention of Wildfire, now however a marriage certificate has given his occupation as 'seaman HMS Chichester' which fits the note (except she is listed as tug rather than HMS)

Was there an HMS Chichester in service at that time or is it more likely to have been a tug, and what is the likely role of the vessel?

any info or comments gratefully received

many thanks

Rob

Boarding Tug CHICHESTER launched 1895 of 180 tons, requisitioned 4/8/1914 to 25/5/1919. Purchased tugs served with the Downs Boarding Flotilla based at Ramsgate. They were used to keep a close check on traffic in the Thames approaches.

Others were, Carcass,Ceylon, Chester, Codfish, Cruden Bay.
