Guest vernon_kell Posted 13 November , 2005 Share Posted 13 November , 2005 Engineer Sub-Leuitenent Alexander Callander. Royal Naval Reseve Can anyone help with information about Alexander Callander and/or HMS Rosaleen Sub Lieutenant Callander served aboard the armed merchant cruisers Teutonic and Himalaya , and the fleet messenger Rosaleen. HMS Teutonic Royal Naval Pennant No's M.52; MI.93 & MI.50 HMS Himalaya (2) was requisitioned in 1916, and converted into a seaplane carrier. HMS Rosaleen - Royal Naval Pennant no: Y4.39 A steel screwed schooner. Built in Dublin 1908; GRT 409 tons. Registered in Cardiff 1908 and Owned by Michael Murphy Limited ( Dublin). Hired as a fleet messenger 22.7.1915 – 10.11.1920. Commanded in July 1918 by Lieutenant (Temp) Malcolm N English. RNR. While researching the vessel I found a reference to another man who had served aboard the Rosaleen. Sub-Leuitenent Arthur Edward Green. Promoted Temp. Sub-Lieut. R.N.R. on 14/8/1915 and served on the fleet messenger 'Rosaleen'; he was invalided on 6/7/1916 with chronic dysentery and was posted back to England by order of the Senior Naval Officer Egypt. He arrived home on 7/8/1916 and was discharged unfit on 16/8/16; his commission was terminated on 19/9/1916. He lived at 52 Sagan Terrace, Fleetwood, Lancs. His Merchant Navy Card shows that he was a Master Mariner, and was born at Birkenhead on 16/2/1881. Any additional info about the men or ships would be most welcome... Guest vernon_kell Posted 15 November , 2005 Share Posted 15 November , 2005 Callender's service record is at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...1&resultcount=1 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thats what I thought but I dont beleve this is the same man. My Callender was a RNR officer not a RN regular. I have downloaded this record and there is no mention of HMS Teutonic; HMS Himalaya or HMS Rosaleen Thanks anyway.
