Malte Znaniecki Posted 13 November , 2005 Share Posted 13 November , 2005 Hello, The regimental number on the PICKELHAUBE (soldier on the very right) seems to be No 28. If this was true, the photograph must have been taken about 1914/1915 in the sector of german 16th Infantry Division at AISNE-CHAMPAGNE-Front. But i am not sure. A higher resolution of that picture might be helpful. Is there something written on its backside ? Malte
Chris_Baker Posted 13 November , 2005 Share Posted 13 November , 2005 I think this might be the Carriere des Cinq Piliers, a little known but fantastic site near Chiry Ourscamp. Check out the website of the excellent Patrimoine de la Grande Guerre, a local historical association organised by my friend Didier Guenaff. (Look in Section Oise). It was he who first showed me the Cinq Piliers site. I wrote a lengthy article about it in the Western Front Association Bulletin some years ago and revisited with WFA Heart of England Branch. The site is private, so contact the Patrimoine for information. There is a not-great photo in the middle of this page too.
